Setting the Scene

It was nerve-wrecking when I was standing at the Amazon Headquarter when the security lady started approaching. Oh Gosh. Why did I put myself into this... Am I going to be blacklisted? None of these actually happened. The lady came and gently asked what the tabling was about and walked away. The moral of the story is that everything is in your head.

Who wrote?

Within an hour, I received 4 responses

• 1 from transit securities (not affiliated with Amazon)

• 3 Amazon Employees

4 RESPONSES (I TRIED... IT'S TOUGH OUT HERE IN SEATTLE)

Results:

This was not what I expected... I thought it'll be more wholesome :/

• 3/4 says Money (MONEY/$$$/Hyper Capitalism at the cost of my sanity). Darn, 2 Amazon Employees said Money

• 1/4 say "Bringing people into a community."

Reality is kicking in. I then interviewed some of the securities and my heart was broken after hearing their stories

Heather says...

"This is the reality I live in. I do not make six figures a year to cover my diabetes medication while living in this economy when a salad costs more than my hourly wage. I need money to survive, and this is my purpose."

Personal Reflection

As a college student, I have been living in a bubble where I do not hear/see other people's stories often. I am grateful that I hear and understand these people's stories and can use my ability to spread people's awareness about our community.

Question for me: What is My Purpose? As a 19-year-old, Sophia, I hope that I can lead with curiosity so that the people around me are heard and seen. I am a servant leader, and I will keep it this way. I hope that my peers will continue to see the value of being an empathetic listener and continue to spread people's stories out there!
